Delivery usually takes 2-6 weeks in most areas. Please contact us for an updated time frame for your local area. All shipping dates are approximate and are computed from the date of your order.
How long will it take for my steel structure to be assembled?
Standard buildings are assembled in about an hour, but larger or more complex buildings may take up to two days, depending upon the size and type of structure.
What do I need to do to prepare my location for installation?
Whether you plan to have your metal garage or carport installed on ground, cement, gravel, or asphalt, a level surface (within 2-3 inches) is required, and the area must be clear of debris and obstructions. It is also important that you notify us at the time of purchase should you plan to have your steel building installed over an item such as an RV, boat, or any other object. Additionally, any steel carport or garage that is installed on anything other than a surface at ground level needs to be mentioned upon ordering. To help ensure our installers’ safety, contact “call before you dig 811” at least a few days prior to delivery and installation, to schedule an appointment to have your underground pipes and electrical wires marked. This ensures the safety of our workers as well as of your property.
What size do I need to make a concrete pad?
Once an order is placed and the down payment is received, you are eligible for a set of engineer-certified plans that will give you the specifications for your concrete pad.
What are the dimensions of the carport outside to outside?
Length (the side) dimension is measured by the roof metal with 6" overhang on each end. Therefore, the bottom base rail is one foot shorter than the roof. Width (the gable end) is measured from one outside base rail to the other outside base rail.
What is the tallest leg height I can order?
12-foot is our tallest standard leg height, but heights above 12 feet can be done as a special order. Please contact us for a free quote on a taller structure.
Why should I consider a vertical roof versus a horizontal roof?
The vertical roof lets rain, snow, etc. run off quickly and does not let it pool on the roof. For 31-foot and longer buildings, we strongly recommend our A-Frame Vertical roof.
I need a building a little different than what I see here. Can you help?
We offer several customization options, and can work with you to create your perfect building. Please contact us with your ideas for a free quote.
Do you have wood buildings?
Carport World provides all metal buildings, but our sister company A Place For Your Stuff, carries a full line of Derksen brand Utility Sheds, Barns, Cabins, Garages, and more, in sizes from 8x12 up to 16x50 for many styles.
Do you offer financing?
We work with two financing companies for your convenience. If you are declined through our first lender, we have a second lender we use that is a little more forgiving of some financial situations. (If you are declined, the lender will send you a letter in the mail within 30 days to let you know the reason.) You must provide two years of residential and employment information to apply. If you are using a spouse or family member's income, they must be used as your co-buyer; co-buyers have the same requirements and must give two years history for their residence and employment. Interest rates on the loan depend on the credit score, debt to income ratio, loan amount, and loan terms. All decisions involving the customer's interest rate & approval are based on those four pieces of information and will be determined by the financial institution. Please contact us for more information.
How can I avoid leaks on my building?
All of our buildings are leak proof. However, when it comes to 31-foot buildings and longer, we strongly recommend our A-Frame Vertical roof, which can prevent future leaks in the long term.
Can you add to a carport after it is already installed?
Yes. There will be an extra service charge, and the original carport must be an American Steel brand carport. In order to add walk-in or overhead or roll-up doors, the original carport must be tall enough to accommodate the door you want to add. Please contact us for more information.
What types of anchors do you have?
- Three-foot temporary pin anchors for ground, clay, or asphalt installation (temporary only, and we are not responsible if you choose pin anchors only)
- Double helix mobile home anchors for ground and clay installation only (extra cost)
- Asphalt anchors for installation on paved surfaces only (extra cost)
- Concrete anchors for concrete installation only (extra cost)
Do I need a permit?
You are responsible for contacting your local authorities to determine if a permit is required. Every county, city, and home-owners association is different; we recommend that all customers check with their local code enforcement to ensure that their building order meets their area’s requirements and obtain permits if necessary. Remember, alterations to your order should be made prior to scheduling.
Does color affect the price?
All of our 12 available standard colors are the same price. You can also choose a different color for your roof, trim, sides, and ends at no additional charge.
